I am a Ph.D candidate in the Political Science Department at Columbia University, where I do work on political theory and the history of political thought. My research focuses on the link between natural law and the idea of the secular state in early modern Europe, with particular attention to works by Vitoria, Bellarmine, Suárez, Hooker, Grotius, and Locke.

My other research and teaching interests include: liberal theory; contemporary debates about the free exercise of religion; conscience as a political and legal concept; and international political theory.
